Umrah: A sacred pilgrimage involving specific rites carried out in the precinct of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.
Known as the “minor Hajj”, distinct from the major pilgrimage (Hajj).
Its importance is emphasized in the Qur’an:
“And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah...” (Qur’an 2:196)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“One ‘Umrah to another is an expiation for what is between them, and Hajj Mabrur brings no reward but Paradise.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 1773, Sahih Muslim 1349
The Prophet ﷺ said to a woman:
“When Ramadan comes, perform ‘Umrah, for ‘Umrah in Ramadan is equal to Hajj (in reward).”
Sahih al-Bukhari 1782, Sahih Muslim 1256
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Perform Hajj and ‘Umrah consecutively, for they remove poverty and sins as the bellows removes impurity from iron.”
Sunan al-Tirmidhi 810, Hasan Sahih
To complete your Umrah, remember these components and observe each one with care.
Spiritual Dimensions of Umrah
Umrah is not just a series of rituals. It is a journey of the heart, a chance to draw closer to Allah, renew our faith, and follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet ﷺ. Every step of Umrah carries deep spiritual meaning, and by reflecting on these meanings, we can transform our Umrah into a truly life-changing experience.
